Summary: Stedmen's essay: "Annoying Ways People Use Sources" begins with ineffective ways of using sources, and progresses to show better examples of powerful sourcing. He compares bad sourcing to slow driving, Where a slow driver might inhibit a normal driver's progression, making his trip take longer, a ineffective writer's use of sourcing doesn't flow, and unecessary information is added to a paper making it more difficult to navigate, and making it take longer.
Response: I feel that this essay focused more on actual examples of using sources instead of focusing on framing or questioning constructs of writing. In the past my useage of sources was overly thorough to ensure i received the best marking for the paper i could receive, and more often than not I repeated information, which i don't feel needed to be repeated.
I agree with you that Stedman demonstrated his point by showing mistakes that students make in using sources.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Stedman used a lot of examples and I feel like that was extremely helpful because most teachers just expect us to know how to fix it, and we really don't know where to even start.
